President Donald Trump proclaimed that \u2018wokeness is gone\u2019 during his joint address to Congress Tuesday night.<\/p>\n
Speaking to a bipartisan crowd in the U.S. Capitol building, Trump touted his administration\u2019s early efforts to roll back \u2018wokeness\u2019 in the U.S., taking aim at \u2018gender-affirming\u2019 procedures for minors.<\/p>\n
\u2018I want Congress to pass a bill permanently banning and criminalizing sex changes on children, and forever,\u2019 Trump said during his speech. \u2018Ending the lie that any child is trapped in the wrong body. This is a big lie. And now a message to every child in America is that you are perfect, exactly the way God made you.\u2019<\/p>\n
\u2018Because we\u2019re getting wokeness out of our schools and out of our military, and it\u2019s already out and it\u2019s out of our society,\u2019 he continued. \u2018We don\u2019t want it. Wokeness is trouble. Wokeness is bad. It\u2019s gone.\u2019<\/p>\n
Trump\u2019s comments come over a month after he signed an executive order to restrict \u2018chemical and surgical\u2019 sex-change procedures for minors.\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u2018Across the country today, medical professionals are maiming and sterilizing a growing number of impressionable children under the radical and false claim that adults can change a child\u2019s sex through a series of irreversible medical interventions,\u2019 the order, entitled \u2018Protecting Children from Chemical and Surgical Mutilation,\u2019 stated.\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u2018This dangerous trend will be a stain on our Nation\u2019s history, and it must end.\u2019<\/p>\n
Though Trump\u2019s order has been resisted by hospitals and medical practitioners in Democratic-run areas, other hospitals have begun to comply with the order.<\/p>\n
In February, the University of Virginia Health Hospital announced it would begin to stop providing transgender treatments to new patients as young as 11 years old.\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u2018Common sense and medical ethics have prevailed,\u2019 Virginia Gov. Glenn Youngkin, R-Va., wrote in a post on X at the time.<\/p>\n
\u2018I\u2019m grateful to the University of Virginia Board of Visitors for its action today to stop harmful transgender treatments for minors and to transfer existing patients to other providers,\u2019 the governor added.<\/p>\n
