Uber Technologies Inc (NASDAQ: UBER) is emerging as a mobility giant that many believe will ultimately rival Tesla Inc (NASDAQ: TSLA) in autonomous driving. <\/p>\n

Still, Dara Khosrowshahi, the chief executive of the ride-hailing firm has nothing but praise for Tesla\u2019s electric vehicles. <\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s a terrific car,\u201d the veteran told Semafor at a Washington summit last week, revealing that he currently owns a Tesla as well. <\/p>\n

Uber shares<\/a> have rallied some 20% since early April. <\/p>\n

Khosrowshahi dubs Tesla\u2019s FSD a delight<\/h2>\n

Dara Khosrowshahi has also had hands-on experience with Tesla\u2019s full self-driving (FSD). \u201cIt is delightful, but I have to take over once in a while,\u201d he added in the Semafor interview. <\/p>\n

However, Uber\u2019s chief executive said the multinational is not at all concerned about the rising competition from Tesla in the robotaxi space. <\/p>\n

According to Khosrowshahi, transportation is a fast-growing industry that\u2019s already worth more than a trillion-dollar. So, it\u2019s unlikely that \u201cthere will be a winner-take-all\u201d in autonomous driving. <\/p>\n

His remarks arrive only days before Uber is scheduled to report its financial results<\/a> for the first quarter. Consensus is for the NYSE listed firm to earn 51 cents a share versus 32 cents per share of loss in the same quarter last year.<\/p>\n

Musk\u2019s view on Waymo\u2019s robotaxis<\/h2>\n

Uber has already partnered with Waymo<\/a>, the self-driving unit of Alphabet Inc, in Austin and Atlanta to strengthen its hold on the robotaxi market. <\/p>\n

Waymo\u2019s recent update confirms its autonomous rides are now being booked over 250,000 times per week across the United States. <\/p>\n

Still, billionaire Elon Musk doesn\u2019t think particularly highly of Waymo. On Tesla\u2019s latest earnings call<\/a>, its chief executive expressed his disapproval of Google\u2019s robotaxis, saying the problem with it is that \u201cit costs way more money.\u201d<\/p>\n

Note that Tesla Inc is scheduled to pilot its robotaxi service in Austin, TX in June. Ahead of it, TSLA shares are down nearly 35% versus their year-to-date high in mid-January. <\/p>\n

What does Waymo mean for Google?<\/h2>\n

Waymo\u2019s former chief executive John Krafcik did not take Musk\u2019s remarks any seriously. <\/p>\n

In fact, Krafcik doesn\u2019t even see Tesla as significant competition, at least for now. \u201cIt has never competed with Waymo – they\u2019ve never sold a robotaxi ride to a public rider. They\u2019ve sold a lot of cars,\u201d he argued in an emailed statement to Business Insider. <\/p>\n

Also last week, a Truist analyst dubbed Waymo a \u201cbright spot\u201d in the Google story. Youssef Squali finds it reasonable for Waymo to ultimately command a valuation similar to that of Uber. <\/p>\n

Uber is currently valued at more than $160 billion, but Waymo is not at all factored into the Google stock price at the time of writing, he added. <\/p>\n
