Paramount Global (NASDAQ: PARA) was in focus on Friday after the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) finally approved its $8.0 billion merger with Skydance Media.<\/p>\n

After more than a year of regulatory hurdles, Skydance is now set to gain control of CBS and other Paramount assets \u2013 ushering in a seismic shift in Hollywood\u2019s power structure.<\/p>\n

Paramount stock inched up on the FCC approval this morning, but then slipped right back into the red by market close. Nonetheless, it\u2019s up some 30% versus its year-to-date high at writing.<\/p>\n

What\u2019s in store for Paramount stock after Skydance merger?<\/h2>\n

Matt Belloni \u2013 the renowned entertainment journalist who\u2019s also the founding partner of \u201cPuck<\/em>\u201d \u2013 expects \u201cpretty dramatic moves\u201d out of Skydance once the aforementioned merger closes, likely in early August.<\/p>\n

In an interview with CNBC<\/a> today, the industry expert argued Skydance could decide in favour of \u201cselling the cable networks of Paramount Global\u201d in the second half of 2025.<\/p>\n

Moreover, he sees significant cost cuts (up to $2 billion) through layoffs<\/a> and restructuring across CBS and other linear TV assets as well.<\/p>\n

According to Belloni, the aforementioned merger could also see Paramount+ and Pluto TV coming together under Cindy Holland\u2019s leadership, with a focus on lower-cost, scalable content.<\/p>\n

Skydance is already pursuing high-profile film projects, including a deal with Will Smith, and may divest non-core assets like BET, he added.<\/p>\n

All in all, Belloni expects the pace of change to be rapid and aggressive as Skydance has had about a year to prepare its post-merger strategy.<\/p>\n

Heading into today, however, Wall Street had a consensus \u201cunderweight<\/a>\u201d rating on PARA shares.<\/p>\n

Is the Skydance merger a positive for PARA Shares?<\/h2>\n

Skydance merger could largely positive for Paramount shares as it brings fresh leadership, tech-first mindset, and a $1.5 billion capital injection to help reduce the latter\u2019s $14 billion debt.<\/p>\n

David Ellison and Jeff Shell are fully committed to repositioning Paramount as a leaner, more profitable media-tech hybrid.<\/p>\n

Other than operational efficiency, the merger could accelerate the US profitability timeline for Paramount+ by the end of 2025 \u2013 aided by AI-driven content creation and reduced churn.<\/p>\n

More importantly, the merger ends years of uncertainty under Shari Redstone\u2019s leadership and sets a clear path forward.<\/p>\n

Several Wall Street analysts, including Robert Fishman of MoffettNathanson, believe the Skydance merger will create long-term value for PARA stock investors if the acquirer executes well.<\/p>\n

Simply put, the $8 billion agreement that the FCC approved today offers compelling upside through cost savings and streaming growth.<\/p>\n

Finally, Paramount stock currently pays a dividend yield of 1.54%, which makes it all the more exciting to own in the second half of 2025 \u2013 at least for those interested in setting up a new source of passive income.  <\/p>\n
